Leaves and Love: A Mural Journey at Hog's for the Cause

I'm thrilled to share the incredible experience of creating a mural at the Hog's for the Cause family support home. As an artist, there's nothing more fulfilling than using my passion to contribute to a cause that truly makes a difference in people's lives.

Preliminary Digital Sketch

Captured on an iPad, the preliminary digital sketch for the mural comes to life. At this part in the process, I was carefully selecting the color palette.

The journey began with a digital sketch on my ipad. The primary goal behind the creation of this mural was to offer a sanctuary of rejuvenation and natural beauty for the families at the Hog's for the Cause family support home. Understanding that these families endure long, challenging days at the hospital, my aim was to provide a visual respite—a breath of fresh air that greets them at the end of each exhausting day. The mural was designed to be atmospheric, exuding a calming energy while maintaining a touch of playfulness through the whimsical pig depictions. Ultimately, my hope is that this artwork becomes a source of solace, infusing the space with a serene and uplifting ambiance for those who need it most.

After a round of tweaks and adjustments, the mockup received the green light, and the excitement kicked in. It was time to bring this vision to life on the walls of the family support home. Armed with brushes, paints, and and a few pictures of pigs, I embarked on the next phase of the mural journey.

End of Day One

As Day One drew to a close, the mural's groundwork was laid, with the majority of the outline taking shape.

The mural, a labor of love, took three days to complete. Let me tell you, my right arm was sore after the third day!

As I applied the final strokes to the mural, I found myself contemplating the profound impact art can have in forging meaningful connections. It brought back vivid memories of a trip to the Mayo Clinic a few years ago, standing by a family member undergoing challenging treatments. As a witness on the other side of the medical journey, I spent moments wandering through the vast clinic, seeking solace in their remarkable art collection. In that dark period, the light shone through the power of art, and for the first time, I comprehended the significance of artistic expression in a medical setting. The experience underscored the importance of infusing healing spaces with visual comfort, a sentiment that resonated deeply in my latest mural at the Hog's for the Cause family support home.

Mural Completed

The mural was finished after three caffeinated days on a step ladder.

This mural is more than just leaves and pigs; it's a visual representation of love, support, and the shared commitment to making a difference. I'm honored to have been a part of this project, and I hope the mural serves as a source of comfort and inspiration for all those who encounter it.

Here's to art that speaks volumes and to organizations like Hog's for the Cause that make the world a better place, one stroke at a time.

Thank you so much to Ann Connelly Fine Art in Baton Rouge for the opportunity to bring this mural to life!
